Hungry and younger brother of George Ezra: Ethan Barnett goes by the name Ten Tonnes for a band that likes to create melodic, floor-breaking indie bangers while rolling into that niche lyrical and vocal style of Tom Petty - the latter of which is a huge influence to Barnett. The 6 released tracks have been quite well received if not over-played in some mediums and the other half of the album is composed of new material previous unheard. The former 6 tracks are recordings of Barnett’ earlier work like ‘Lucy’ which is clearly better produced, louder and more catchy. The slightly disappointing aspect is that only half of the 12-track volume is new - leaving less to discover and simply instead of making his former work an EP he’s plugged it onto the debut. This is not a new selling or marketing method - you sell what you know has done well in the charts. The album as far as debuts go is strong, summery, lingering and fun. He’s got the family ethos from brother George about doing the best on a debut and giving it all. Barnett' vocal range is also more alluring in some songs, the softer ‘Cracks Between’ & ‘Lay it On Me’ reflect a possible more niche route for the singer for followup albums. His star shines bright for the long ride and he’s got a bright future, but his debut album leaves you wanting for more than you are given. Let’s hope his second album comes swiftly.
