In training my troop sergeant was a US Marine, G/Sgt Elvington, and when we passed out on the 4th of July the band played the Marines Hymn as a tribute to him and the date. We then stayed at Lympstone for a couple of weeks to do a drill display for the open day before being posted to our Commando units. Cpl McIntosh drilled us constantly and the day stays in my memory thanks largely to the band who played a lot of the music on this album. We marched to Per Mare Per Terram, did rifle drills to Westering Home and Britannic Salute, then finished the day to Nimrod and the Last Post. Nobody plays this music better than the Band of the Royal Marines and the music is both powerful and atmospheric. Stick it on and enjoy whilst carrying our submarine drills!!
